Bayford Round Up
The 2025/26 Winter hire kart championships came to a close at Bayford Meadows on February 28th. The championships took place over four monthly races during the winter period. It will come as no surprise to anyone that most of the rounds were run in damp/wet conditions. Each age group was divided into different weight groups to make the racing as fair as possible.
Junior Monza class:
Poppy Chilmad took wins at the first and last round of the championship to secure the Monza title by a mere point from Henrick Van Kleeff. Henrick was the model of consistency and claimed one win and three podium spots on his way to the Runner Up spot. The third place championship trophy went to the improving Jacob Lane who showed improving race craft at all of the rounds. The championship midfield runners all showed a good turn of speed at times with Stefan Kleczkowski 4th, Max Bourn 5th, Poppy Diddams 6th and Archie Baker 7th. Taylor Ovenden would surely have finished higher but unfortunately missed the second round, two podium finishes showed his potential. Jack Wickenden 9th made his debut in the championship and made steady improvements throughout the winter.
Junior Silverstone Class
Reece Peters was a deserved Silverstone Champion, two wins and two third place finishes saw Reece dominate the final standings some seventeen points clear of runner up James Blundell. One point further back Riley Taylor made the podium twice to take third place. Fourth place for Joshua Harris was a just reward for his efforts, Joshua should be one of the favourites for the upcoming Summer Championship. 5th place Ronnie Deacon impressed in the first half of the championship before moving to racing his own kart. Sebastian Costa 6th and Jamie Ball 7th both campaigned for the whole season and gained valuable experience.
Adult Super Sprint
Adult Silverstone Class
Lewis Smith had the measure of the Silverstone class. His three wins left him comfortably clear of the runner up Alex Brazier and third place finisher Lewis Roe in the final standings. Scott Brooks, Jack Lead, Rob Garrod and Sebastian Maffei all made the podium at least once but could not consistently match the pace of the top three.
Adult Monza Class
Numerically the Monza class was the largest and most competitive of all the classes. Chris Bowers saw off the challenge of young Jared Newman on his way to the Monza title, ending nine points clear of Jared after four tight meetings. Alan Wilshire only made the podium once but amassed sufficient points for third place in the final standings. Harris Wakelin and Adam Beaumont both made the podium but suffered one low scoring round which harmed their championship bids.
Adult Fuji Class.
Vito Dacres is our Winter Champion. Three wins secured the crown over Sam R. Jacob Robinson missed the opening round but solid performances thereafter saw him finish third in the standings.
Graduates Class Silverstone.
Fast and assured Ronnie Chambers came out on top of the Silverstone class with three dominant wins. Gvidas Arys is equally as fast and won one round on his way to the runners up spot. Max Noheji 3rd looked to take the fight to the top two and looks a talent for the future. Oliver Sikora, Jude Steiner and Fraiser Pearson also impressed at times and a little more consistency will see them higher up the standing going forward.
Graduates Class Monza
Mason Hickey and Jason Hoare tied on points at the top of the Monza standings, Mason took the title on the tie breaker. Both drivers have developed into excellent racing drivers and richly deserved the success they enjoyed. It is always interesting to spot some emerging talent and JJ Aspin is a driver on the rise and despite his lack of experience claimed the 3rd place in the class.
Attention now turns to the Summer Champs which kick off on March 28th and will run throughout the summer.
